Description

A criminal escapes exile in Australia on a ship whose cargo of food spoils before it docks in England. He approaches a refrigeration pioneer to offer his assistance in return for keeping his true identity hidden. A local vicar recognises him however which splits his daughter’s loyalties; after all, bringing food from abroad in perfect condition is a real threat to the livelihoods of indigenous farmers. Will Queen Victoria ever get to eat an apple in May?
