Description

This short play is intended to be performed alone or as part of a larger revue.  There are other short Edgar Allen Poe adaptations available on this site as well as the complete collection called ‘Raven about Poe‘.

Published in 1845, this short story was taken as a factual account and was only later revealed as a hoax by Poe. After being diagnosed with Tuberculosis, Ernest Valdemar seeks his Physician friend who is fascinated by magnetism (later developed into what we now know as hypnosis).  The Physician has always wondered what would happen if someone was mesmerised at the point of death.  Valdemar volunteers and it seems, as the play progresses, that the physician is able to speak to Valdemar from the afterlife.

Downloadable file is in Microsoft Word and PDF format.
