Playwright and Director
Writing Comedy, Drama and One-Act Plays
Derek Olson grew up on a small family ranch outside of the Center of the Nation in the United States. He graduated from High School in Belle Fourche, South Dakota in 2002, even then he knew he wanted to write. He was able to help write several pieces in High School and College that were performed by his High School. Derek attended college at the Art Institute of Colorado and received a degree in Media Arts & Animation. After school he moved back to his hometown. Since then he works in Marketing for a day job but has also been director of his local High School theater program for over the last decade.
He is also Executive Director for the Belle Fourche Area Community Theater where he gets to oversee the whole program. He is lucky enough to been able to perform many of his scripts for both the High School and Community Theater. They were popular enough that people told him he should get them out there for others to perform. Being a full-time writer has always been one of Derek's dreams and he is moving in that direction.
Derek was lucky enough to find someone who loves him and his passion and married his love, Anna Robinson, in 2019. They live in Belle Fourche, South Dakota with their cat Fred and Derek is constantly writing new scripts.
